Forensic Accounting

Know something isn't right with the numbers, but you're not sure what? Let Juba Forensics PLLC dive deeper into the numbers for you. This can be a short investigation or a deeper dive into the numbers. We work with you and the numbers that can be provided to determine if there is anything missing or not the way it should be.

Expert Witness Testimony

We provide independent financial analysis and expert testimony for litigation, arbitration, mediation, and regulatory matters. Our services include expert reports, damage calculations, and clear communication of complex financial issues to attorneys, judges, and juries.

Employee Training

Our customized training programs educate employees, management, and boards on fraud risks, warning signs, reporting procedures, and ethical responsibilities. We help organizations build a culture of accountability while reducing the risk of financial misconduct.

Fraud Investigations

We're here to investigate employee theft, embezzlement, financial statement manipulation, vendor fraud, payroll fraud, and misappropriation of assets. These investigations provide clear findings, supporting documentation, and expert analysis to make decisions, file insurance claims, or pursue litigation.

Asset Tracing & Recovery

We help identify, trace, and document assets that may have been concealed, misappropriated, or transferred through fraudulent activity. Our investigations provide clear financial trails and support recovery efforts, legal proceedings, and settlement negotiations.

Fraud Prevention

We assess fraud risks and design internal controls that protect assets, improve accountability, and strengthen financial oversight. Our services help organizations reduce opportunities for fraud while supporting compliance and operational efficiency.

FAQs

What does a forensic accountant do?
A forensic accountant investigates financial records to find out what really happened to the money. That can mean tracing hidden assets in a divorce, uncovering employee theft, or calculating losses for a legal case. Dr. Gabrielle Juba is both a CPA and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), so the work is held to accounting and fraud-examination standards.

Do I need a forensic accountant for my divorce in North Carolina?
You may need one if you aren’t sure you can see the full financial picture. North Carolina divides marital property through “equitable distribution,” so the outcome depends on identifying and valuing everything accurately. A forensic accountant helps when one spouse controls the finances, owns a business, or has accounts you can’t access.

What are signs my spouse may be hiding assets?
Common signs include:

  • Unexplained cash withdrawals

  • New accounts you didn’t know about

  • Business income that suddenly drops

  • Large payments to friends or family

  • Statements that now go only to your spouse

None of these prove anything on their own, but they’re worth having reviewed before you agree to a settlement.

I think an employee is stealing from my business or nonprofit.

What should I do first?
Don’t confront the person or change anything yet. Quietly preserve records (bank statements, invoices, payroll reports), limit their access if you can do so without tipping them off, and call a forensic accountant and your attorney. Acting too fast can destroy evidence or hurt an insurance claim.

Can you serve as an expert witness?
Yes. Juba Forensics provides expert reports, damage calculations, and testimony for litigation, mediation, and arbitration, and explains complex financial issues in plain language for judges and juries.

Do I need an attorney before I contact you?
No, you can contact us first. Many clients come through their attorney, and we work closely with family law and litigation firms. If your matter is headed to court, we’ll coordinate with your attorney from the start.

How much does a forensic accountant cost?
Cost depends on how many records need review, how complex the finances are, and whether testimony is needed. A focused review costs far less than a full investigation with expert testimony. Start with a free 15-minute consult and we’ll talk through the scope before any work begins.

How long does a forensic accounting engagement take?
A focused review can take a few weeks. A full investigation depends on how quickly records can be gathered, especially when they have to be subpoenaed. We’ll give you a realistic timeline at the start.

Do you only work in the Asheville area?
No. Juba Forensics is based in Western North Carolina and serves clients in Asheville, Hendersonville, Brevard, Black Mountain, and across NC, with many services available remotely nationwide.

Is my information kept confidential?
Yes. As a CPA, Dr. Juba is bound by professional rules on client confidentiality, and your records are handled securely and shared only as you authorize.
